To Marry or Not to Marry and If So, Where?
With the gay marriage debates looming over us
for some time it seemed only right that we brought up the question: for those
of you in a committed relationship, should you marry or not? The debate seems
to be split by both sides of the fence. There are some homosexuals that feel
this is unnecessary, however, most agree that the option to marry should
be open - should they choose it.
Whether you have considered actually going through
with a traditional marriage, or not, many committed couples do prefer to
have a ceremony of some sort to celebrate their love. Until recently the
thought of actually being able to marry was somewhat unheard of. Today, though,
the option is there in a somewhat limited possibility. The question now becomes:
is marriage right for you?
For some people it may work out beautifully,
however there are those other people who are just not ready to be married.
It doesn't make them wrong mind you - it just means that marriage isn't suitable
for them. If you have been in a committed, stable relationship for some time
- and want to get married - there are going to be two conflicting thoughts
amongst other people. First, some people will wonder why you need to get
married if you have already proven your love, however others will see it
as the most beautiful way to form a lasting bond.

While married heterosexuals are offered nearly 1,400 federal benefits these
are things that homosexual couples will be denied - regardless of whether
their marriages are deemed valid or not. However, if you are getting married
for other reasons there is still a possibility for a very special day.
If you decide to get married and live in the
United States you may be discouraged. Obviously, not all people can afford
to travel all the way around the world to attend a wedding. This has led
many gay men to some quick planning. Some of the most popular decisions lead
couples to have a ceremony and reception in their area and go on a honeymoon
where marriage is legal and they can tie the knot during their honeymoon
in a private ceremony.
There are currently four countries where same
sex marriage is widely accepted. Any of these spots would make lovely honeymoon
destinations as well as give you lovely wedding options for small or large
ceremonies.
· Belgium
· Canada
· Netherlands
· Spain
If you live in the states, are budgeting your
money, and do not want to spend an exorbitant amount on airfare and other
traveling expenses then take a week to visit Canada for your wedding. You
could go to beautiful Toronto - or any number of spots depending on the honeymoon
you are going for. Pridefest in Toronto is absolutely fabulous and makes
a great spot to say, "I do". Of course, there are many other beautiful spots
in Canada for knot tying ceremonies, and, ultimately, you should go wherever
you and your partner will feel is most suitable for the both of you.
It's important to keep in mind why you are getting
married. If it is to show your devotion many couples will opt for 'commitment
ceremonies', which can, and do, turn out just as lovely as a traditional
wedding. There will be no legal differences (until things change in the country)
so - if that is your main motivation for marriage - it is definitely something
to think about.
Either way marriage is something that many committed
couples long to do. If you find that bond you may know that it is the bond
that is important, and not any legal implications that come with it. Good
luck in your decisions and should you choose to marry it will be one of the
most magical days of your
relationship.
